Pricing and Quilt Preparation
Quilt Services Pricing
The cost of quilting will depend upon size of quilt, type of quilting, and what other services the customer requests. Quilting is based on the size of the quilt in square inches. Measure the length and width of the quilt top. Multiple the two amounts to get square inches. For example, if the quilt top is 56 inches wide and 72 inches long, it would be 4,032 square inches (56 x 72).
One design quilted from edge to edge | $.02 per square inch |
Two designs, one in border and second in rest of quilt | $.03 per square inch |
Custom quilting | $.03 to $.05 per square inch |
The batting can be supplied by the customer or I can provide the batting. I use Hobbs 80/20 (80% cotton, 20% polyester). The batting cost is $.11 per linear inch.

Once I receive a quilt, I will review what needs to be done and provide a written estimate of the total cost before I start any work. As part of the estimate I will include a copy of the quilt design that I will be using and the color thread. The written estimate will include an estimated completion date. The customer will have an opportunity to review and approve the estimate before I start work.

Quilt Preparation
In order to properly load and quilt a project on a longarm machine, the backing and batting must be at least 4 inches larger on all sides. For example, if the top is 52 x 70, the batting and back must be 60 x 78. However, bigger is not always better. Backings that are larger than needed (4 inches larger on all sides) may need to be cut back.
Remove salvage, particularly if you seam the back. Salvages stretch differently than the fabric and can distort the quilt.
Quilt top should have seams pressed and threads cut. Repair any open seams.
Quilt top should be square meaning that the top and bottom should be the same measurement and left and right sides should be the same measurement. Differences of more than one inch may result in an add-on charge and I cannot guarantee there will not be fullness that needs to be quilted down. If you have any questions, please contact me.
